Inspiring the college bound

Last week, I found myself in front of a crowd inside Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida.  I was invited to be a guest speaker on a career panel put on by UnidosNow, a local organization that advocates on behalf of the Latino community. The young people who were present are enrolled in the Future Leaders Academy and are contemplating their educational and career paths.

I was honored to sit alongside a distinguished number of Latino professionals:  Kelly Rodenas, Attorney at Law; Mireya Eavey, President, United Way of the Suncoast, Sarasota; Dr. Xavier Sevilla, Physician and Neil Comber, Corporate Executive.  I had the opportunity to share my educational and career path and how I came to work as a musician full-time.  After the panel was officially over, I was able to speak with several young people in the audience who intend on becoming music professionals and educators.  I was happy to share my joy at working in my chosen field, while also highlighting the commitment and determination it has taken to do so.  I was enthusiastic, but honest.

I loved having the opportunity to be of service.  Made my day!
